2010 Boal Barn Season
Twelve Angry Men | Mrs. McThing | Wonderful Town | A Streetcar Named Desire
Hello, Dolly! | The Curious Savage

July 20-24, July 27-31, 2010     at 8pm

A Streetcar Named Desire
    A Play in Three Acts
    by Tennesse Williams

This is the story of a woman’s struggle to survive in what she perceives as a world declining into decadence.  Blanche, a former Southern Belle down on her luck and in disgrace, comes to live with her sister, Stella, and her working class husband, Stanley, in a poor neighborhood in mid-century New Orleans.  Blanche lives more and more in a parallel universe that she has constructed from past recollections and fantasies in a desperate attempt to survive on her own terms.  Stanley mistakes Blanche’s attitude for snobbery and an attempt to break up his marriage.  Stella is torn between the two of them.  Depending upon the auditioning pool, the director will attempt to cast this play multiculturally.

Stella Kowalski - Blanche’s twenty something, younger sister and Stanley’s wife. She is filled with life, literally and figuratively.

Eunice Hubbell - An upstairs neighbor. Steve’s wife. Age and race depends upon the availability of actors.

An African American Woman - A neighbor, any age.

A Mexican Woman - A mystical figure speaking only a Spanish phrase.

The Nurse - A medical official, does her job.

MEN
Stanley Kowalski - A working class guy in his twenties. What used to be referred to as “the salt of the earth.” He loves his wife and is very antagonistic to Blanche who he feels is trying to break up his marriage. If possible an African-American but not necessarily.

Harold Mitchell (Mitch) - Stanley’s closest friend and Blanche’s suitor. Twenties or thirties, somewhat gentled by the fact he still lives with and takes care of his ailing mother.

Steve Hubbell - Upstairs neighbor, Eunice’s husband, age and race depends on availability of actors.

Pablo Gonzales - One of Stanley’s card playing friends.
