Hello, Dolly! | The Curious Savage

June 29-30, July 1-3, July 6-10, 2010     at 8pm

Wonderful Town
    A Musical Comedy
Book by Joseph Fields and Jerome Chodorov
    Music by Leonard Bernstein
Lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green
Based on the play My Sister Eileen
by Joseph Fields and Jerome Chodorov
and the stories by Ruth McKenney

It’s the summer of 1935.  Meet Ruth and Eileen Sherwood of Columbus, Ohio, two sisters who sing and dance their way into every kind of comic trouble as they seek their fortunes in New York City’s Greenwich Village.  Love conquers all, of course, and a happy ending is guaranteed.  With delightful music by Leonard Bernstein and a colorful collection of zany characters, Wonderful Town is sheer fun for the entire family!

ROLES

PRINCIPAL ROLES

Robert Baker   20’s-40   (Baritone)   an editor;  Leading man—great voice and strong presence

Wreck   20’s-40   (Baritone)   a former football player;  Comic leading man—a big athletic-looking guy who sings well

Frank Lippencott   20’s-40   (Tenor/Baritone)   the manager of Walgreen's drugstore;  Amusing, nerdy suitor of Eileen’s

Chick Clark   20’s-40   (Tenor/Baritone)   a slick newspaperman and admirer of Eileen's;  Perennial bad boy

Mr. Appopolous   30’s-60’s   (Non-singing)   a blustering artist—the girls’ landlord

A Colorful Chorus of New Yorkers—Lots of small, juicy roles!!
Drunks, newspaper editors, navy cadets, a lady of the evening, a “strange man”, a waiter, a shore patrolman, a chef, a delivery boy, an irate mother-in-law, happy singing cops, a nightclub owner and his patrons, “Bop” girls, swingers.  Many actors play more than one character.  There is a lot of opportunity to shine at whatever you do well.  Some close harmony for the singing policemen, lots of dancing here and there for some men and women.  We will mold the expectations to our cast!
